County Football Tournament

On Friday the Boys and Girls football teams travelled the short distance over to Redlands for the tournament in a bid to gain a place at this years county finals. The girls had a difficult start, facing a very strong St Mary's team. Having defended well they conceded two goals. However, spirits were raised in the second match against Southill, with captain Scarlett Paul netting a hat trick and, Ava Newall and Kacey Baber scoring to take the win 5-1. Conifers faced Radipole next, they fought hard against some of their club team mates but came out 2-0 winners, Scarlett Paul scoring both. Due to the lack of entries the girls played a second round of matches. St Mary's took an early lead but Conifers managed to battle and stole an equalising goal with the match finishing one all. They went on to beat Southill and Radipole again, meaning they finished second and qualified for the county finals. Like the girls, the boys had a tough opening match. They faced Dorchester Middle and, despite playing some excellent football, they lost 2-0. In the 2nd game they faced, St George's, another strong side, who went on to win the competition on penalties. They lost 3-0. In the next match they faced St Augustine's. With some excellent passing and teamwork, they netted 7 goals against the small school, which lifted their spirits. They next faced Wyke Regis. The game was end to end, with both teams defending well and having opportunities to score. However, Wyke scored in the last few seconds. The final game was against Bincombe and Conifers wanted to finish on a high. They did, winning 3-1. Despite not making it through to the semi-finals, the team are looking forward to their first league game against Holy Trinity after half term.
